Wanaka Bike Tours has been operating bike rentals and bike shuttle services in the Wanaka area since 2005.
Over this time we have established a reputation locally and internationally for providing excellent customer satisfaction. Our motto “more than just two wheels” is not just a slogan, it is our mantra, meaning we go over and beyond for every customer to ensure they take away great memories from their visit to the Wanaka Lakes area.
Our team of dedicated locals make the difference, here is some background and insights on each of our team members:
OPERATIONS TEAM
STU
Stu’s favourite past time is biking in one form or another be it road, gravel or mountain bike and has biked most trails in New Zealand as well as completing the Tour Aotearoa in 2020 bike packing from Cape Reinga to Bluff.
Also on Stu’s list of hobbies is fly fishing, pickleball, caravanning, photography, cooking, whiskey, wine, grandchildren and serving the community through the local Rotary Club.
Back in the day Stu was also a tour guide in Europe and is always looking for new adventures and loves meeting people especially if he can show off New Zealand.
ROSS
Ross is our gelato expert, as well as being a very proficient skier and keen mountain biker (which is a pre-requisite for everyone in our team) and just loves to engage in conversation to get to know our customers. In his spare time, Ross is our man for checking the track conditions to make sure our whole team are aware of any track changes. Our advice to you with Ross is avoid asking who serves the best gelato in town as again, you may be delayed a little longer than you wish with a lesson on artisinal gelato 🙂
BRUCE
Every team needs a legend and we have Bruce, a local Wanaka legend. A long career as a coach of the NZ Free ski team, and father of 4 sons who have all represented their country, when Bruce is not high up in the mountains, we get to use his skills as our most experienced operator.
Bruce, like the rest of the team, just enjoys the role of showing our customers the local highlights and ensuring everyone returns back safely after having the most enjoyable experience possible.
GRAHAM
Returning back to us for the 2024/2025 season after a North Island sabbatical, “G” or nickname “Ropey” has vast experience driving and working for Mount Aspiring school and operating their school campus run, so if he can handle 12 rowdy kids, then our customers are a breeze!
Returning home for this season, Graham is looking forward to safely delivering you to the start of the ride and making sure everyone has a great time. Like most of us, coffee is his weakness, so if you need a “fix” don’t worry Graham knows where to find the best barista. What to avoid discussing with “G”? Coming to live here….as he has his real estate licence and he will try to sell you a house and also avoid asking him about riding bikes all over New Zealand as he has lots of stories to tell….
NIGE
Nige joined us back in 2023 and whilst we use a qualified bike mechanic for most of our repairs, Nige is currently completing his qualification to become a bike mechanic. Currently, he is our man for general maintenance, which as a qualified builder for him it’s second nature. Past roles as a volunteer fireman awarded for bravery citation, Nige is a man of many talents. If Nige is on duty, you can be assured that you are in very safe hands..
ADMINISTRATION TEAM
LAURA & NEIL
No business can operate without the back office team that run the daily bookings. When you book online or via email it’s our tag team of two that will make sure the operations team have all the right information to make your day a memorable experience.
Our team of drivers are encouraged to take a few photos of your group and it’s Laura’s job to make sure we emailed to you after the activity! It’s these small personal touches that make the difference and why our business is continually receiving 5-star ratings on Google or TripAdvisor
If you have any questions then just email the office at hello@wanakabiketours.co.nz and they will reply as soon as possible.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.
