Wanaka is a stunningly beautiful location, with towering mountain peaks, beautiful mountain lakes, rivers, and waterfalls. They all provide fantastic opportunities for walking and hiking.

ROB ROY GLACIER WALK

Simply put… one of THE BEST Short walks in New Zealand.

The drive up the Matukituki Valley is awe-inspiring on its own, but when you start walking be prepared to pick your jaw up off the ground when you are finally confronted by the Rob Roy Glacier.

ROYS PEAK

The most popular long day walk is also the closest to town.

Roys Peak is an easy to intermediate-level walk.

The famous Peak social photo spot is a must-do on the way up.

From the summit enjoy views up the Matukituki valley to Mt Aspiring and across the upper Clutha to the Pisa Range.

Diamond Lake walk – summit view

DIAMOND LAKE AND ROCKY MOUNTAIN WALK

This Short walk climbs steadily to Diamond Lake we continue up to a spectacular lookout high on a cliff above the lake. From here we continue on to the Rocky Mountain’s (775m) summit via a loop track.

Spectacular views include Lake Wānaka and a skyline dominated by the surrounding peaks.

Isthmus Peak

ISTHMUS PEAK

The most challenging day walk we offer is ISTHMUS. Starting off on the shores of Lake Hawea you quickly gain elevation and you can enjoy the changing flora as you go through the zones into the Sub Alpine toward the later part of the walk.

From the summit (1,385m) you are rewarded with views of Lake Hawea. Lake Wanaka, Mt Aspiring, and the surrounding Southern Alps.

Crystal-clear waters at the Blue Pools

BLUE POOLS

The Blue Pools are part of the Mt Aspiring National park, fed by glaciers the frigid waters filter through steep rocky canyons making for incredibly clear water.

A short 4-5 km flat walk from the car park the Blue pool is a popular photo spot for tourists traveling the Haast pass.
