WANAKA WALKS – THE BLUE POOLS

The Blue Pools is an easy 20min walk from the Carpark which is in the Main Haast to Hawea road.
Getting to the Blue Pools without your own transport can be a challenge which is where we come in.
Picking you up from in front of the Wanaka iSite we can transport you out to the Blue Pools in one of our comfortable transit vans. Your driver will be the tour guide for the drive and will provide commentary on the region, its history, and geography along the way. The walk from the car park is un-guided, as its flat, gentle and short and takes you through lush Beech forest and follows the Makaroa river, when you cross the swing bridge the water is crystal clear and you will often be able to easily see trout feeding and swimming.
The Blue Pools are fed from the nearby glaciers in Mount Aspiring National Park, making the water very cold. From the viewing platform you can appreciate the beautiful blues of the pools or if you wish you can climb down to the water’s edge and be on the river stones.

Total elevation change is very minor throughout this walk. 324m-374m.

Easy out and back walk along the valley floor. Crossing the Makaroa River via a swingbridge.
